“On your left” is an expression all Marvel fans are familiar with, and it is one that effectively spearheaded Anthony Mackie’s rise into a role of a lifetime. Despite a career with many highlights, including starring in films such as 8 Mile (2002), Brother to Brother (2003), Million Dollar Baby (2004), Notorious (2009) and The Hurt Locker (2009), among others; it was his role as Sam Wilson (The Falcon) in Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) that propelled this talented actor into a household name.

“The choices that we make through our lives, the people who intersect us on our path kind of change what our fated destiny is. So some of us are lucky enough for the choices that we make to keep us on our path” – Anthony Mackie

Mackie’s 2014 debut in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, and the subsequent five films that followed, have been integral to setting up The Falcon’s character to take over one of the most important mantles in the entire Marvel franchise: the shield, name and values of Captain America. This scenario forms the very backbone of the 2021 Disney Plus mini-series, Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Mackie’s portrayal of a conflicted Sam Wilson does a fantastic job of navigating the nuance of what it means be thrust into a role built on certain expectations and values from a bygone era. In so doing, Mackie has become the person of colour to help spearhead a new generation of representation in superhero cinema; and he is taking charge with absolute aplomb.

In terms of his early life, Anthony Mackie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana (USA). He has one sibling (his brother Calvin – an associate professor of engineering at Tulane University) and was raised by his parents Willie and Martha (thankfully, no relation to Batman or Superman).

Mackie has seemingly always had a passion for the arts and attended Warren Easton Sr High School and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA); before going on to graduate from the high school drama program at the North Carolina School of the Arts (NCSA) in 1997. He later graduated from the Juilliard School’s Drama Division as a member of Group 30 (1997–2001).

A part from being a successful actor, he has four children with ex-wife Sheletta Chapital and formerly owned a business called NoBar in Brooklyn, New York (USA).

ANTHONY DWANE MACKIE (born 23 SEPTEMBER 1978) is an american ACTOR HAILING FROM New Orleans, LOUISIANA. HE IS A CLASSICALLY TRAINED ACTOR, HAVING ATTENDED THE PRESTIGIOUS Juilliard School, AND IS best known for his role AS THE FALCON (AND NOW Captain America) in THE MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE.
