The film stars Academy Award® winners Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side, The Proposal) and George Clooney (Up in the Air, Syriana), and is being directed by Oscar® nominee Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men).

The film follows Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock), a brilliant medical engineer, who is on her first shuttle mission to space. Her companion, veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney), is in command of the flight, which also happens to be his last before retiring. Unfortunately, as is the norm when it comes to science-fiction films, things take a turn for the worst during a routine spacewalk. The result is a disaster that leaves Stone and Kowalsky completely abandoned in space, with no communication to Earth, as they spiral further into the inky blackness of the universe.
