Razer is largely known as the “green snek” company with all of its reptilian themes and snake-related naming schemes. Nevertheless, the manufacturer also embraces a different side characterised by humour and a fondness for memes. So much so, in fact, its original comical peripheral has become the go-to choice as a streamer peripheral. Thus, the introduction of a new and vastly improved pro variant is only natural, and the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 Pro is an exemplary addition, to say the least.

The Razer Kraken has always been a formidable peripheral. Thus this new second variation of the charmingly whimsical Kitty design, based on the Kraken platform, offers users premium sound quality and some of the company’s most impressive features to date. As with all things in life, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, and so the premium price tag of $289 AUD/R4,500 ZAR may prompt some to squint ever so slightly. Price aside, the attractive options of a pretty pink (or “quartz”) colour and the more distinguished black; are sure to delight prospective owners upon unboxing.

Stylistic touches and eco-friendly options have long been part of Razer’s premium packaging and the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 Pro is no exception. Unveiling the product reveals a completely biodegradable cardboard box adorned with Razer branding and a catchy tagline, “The Meow Factor”, on the lid. Inside, the headset rests snugly on a bed of premium foam, accompanied by two additional pairs of “ears” for added charm.

Despite being a novelty peripheral, Razer has maintained its signature build quality in the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 Pro. The headset features a combination of durable hard plastics and steel alloys, complemented by premium memory foam in the headband and ear cushions. The detachable Razer HyperClear cardioid microphone is equipped with a practical windscreen to minimise noise interference and ensure clear communication with teammates. Additionally, the headset boasts Razer Triton 50mm drivers, and THX Spatial Audio support. In essence, the headset closely resembles the third version of the Razer Kraken Pro, with the exception of the small connections and prongs on the top of the headband, specifically designed to link with the interchangeable ears provided in the box.

Streamers are presented with a delightful question by Razer: “Why settle for one cute look when you can have three”? The Razer Kraken Kitty V2 Pro comes pre-installed with the iconic kitty ears, but wearers have the option to swap them out with the included bear or bunny ears, or even mix and match them for a unique appearance during streams. Notably, the connections for attaching the ears are quite snug. It must be noted how the long-term durability of these connections remains uncertain considering how snuggly and securely they hold the peripheral ears in place, but after frequent changes during the test period, no issues were observed with their tightness or fit.

Similar to other Kraken variants, the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 Pro is fully Razer Chroma compatible, allowing users to personalise the RGB lighting of the headset to their preference. The added bonus here, however, is that each of the peripheral ears come with their own RGB zones as well. Users can choose from seemingly countless colours and effects through Razer Streamer Companion, and even link the effects to stream events or macros for added streaming interactivity. The inclusion of “Cosplay mode” is a noteworthy addition, enabling wearers to showcase their favourite colour combinations while on the move or at events, further embracing the whimsical spirit of the product.

One standout feature (or lack thereof) is how the main cable does not detach from the unit. It terminates in a USB-A connection, and is compatible with Microsoft Windows, Linux, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch (docked) only. For funsies, the headset was connected to an Xbox Series X, and while the Razer Chroma lit up (thanks to Cosplay Mode) it did nothing for actual sound delivery. While a minor drawback, a detachable USB-C cable with driver support for more consoles would have been preferable given the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 Pro’s price point.

The Razer Kraken Kitty V2 Pro stands out as a delightful and innovative addition to Razer’s lineup of peripherals. Embracing the meme-loving side of the company, this cutesy variant appeals to streamers whilst offering premium sound quality and a range of impressive features – with the standout attribute undoubtedly being its interchangeable ears. Razer Chroma compatibility adds another layer of customisation, allowing users to personalise the RGB lighting on both the headset and the ears. The addition of “Cosplay mode” for showcasing favourite colour combinations at events is a nice addition. While the headset features no detachable power delivery and data cable, its platform support is larger than some, but still nowhere near what it could be for its premium category. With that said, however, the Razer Kraken Kitty V2 Pro remains a treat for streamers and gaming enthusiasts who care about sound, making it an exceptional choice for those who also wants to “embrace the meme”.
