Instagram and Snapchat filters used to be all the rage before TikTok took the world by storm. Since then, the world of filters has enjoyed a calm and collected place amongst social media users, serving more as a cute go-to for friends and followers (and TikTok memes). Perhaps that is poised to change once again, as filters about prominent video game figures start appearing? Anyone who wants to identify, albeit briefly, as Emil from NieR Replicant 1.22474487139, can now do exactly that thanks to these Nier Replicant filters.
Square-Enix have released limited-time Instagram and Snapchat filters to allow fans of NieR Replicant to change their beautiful faces into Emil’s iconic mug. Emil, who dons a ghostly and almost skeletal face (mask?, is one of the most beloved recurring characters throughout the Drakengard spin-off franchise.
In order to get the filter on either Snapchat or Instagram, all fans need to do is scan either of the images above. The code with the brown background is for Instagram, and the one with the yellow background is for Snapchat. Alternatively, however, some fans may have a challenging time getting the QR codes to work – particularly the Instagram one. In such an event, a few extra steps can be followed:
- Step 1: Open Instagram
- Step 2: Swipe to start a new story
- Step 3: Swipe right on the ‘effects browser‘ until the search icon appears – tap it
- Step 4: Search for ‘Nier’ in the Effect Gallery
- Step 5: Tap on filter and enjoy
Better still, fans outside of Instagram and Snapchat are also getting some love. While the NieR Replicant filters are only for the aforementioned platforms, Twitter fans can show their love for the franchise by using the #NieRReplicant hashtag. In doing so, a unique new Twitter emoji will appear in the tweet.
If social media is not part of your forte and you have no need for these Nier Replicant filters, then perhaps I might interest you in some gorgeous Nier origami? Appropriately dubbed “NieR-igami”, Square Enix managed to get Finnish Origami artist Juho Könkkölä on board to attempt crafting Emil and the Protagonist out of nothing but paper. Needless to say, it is wonderfully accurate.
It is very clear Square Enix and developers Toylogic are extremely proud of this remastered and reworked version of NieR Gestalt. So whether you are a megafan who loves all things NieR, or just a gamer looking for a new action role-playing title made by Square, you have definitely found the correct game to latch onto.
