This reveal, following a teaser at the PC Gaming Show’s Most Wanted showcase in November 2023, showcases the sequel to the studio’s acclaimed city-builder. Known for its strategic gameplay intricacies and deeply engaging narrative, Frostpunk 2 is set to launch in the first half of 2024, continuing its exploration of survival and leadership in a challenging environment.

In this sequel, players take on the role of a Steward, who – much like in the original title – is responsible for managing a growing city in a world ravaged by extreme cold. The game challenges players to balance the needs and demands of their citizens, who are concerned with issues ranging from childcare and crime to employment and living conditions in an industrialising society. The Frostpunk 2 gameplay trailer showcases how these challenges are compounded by the difficulty of meeting basic needs like food and shelter, and the potential rise of radical factions, all of which add layers of complexity to the gameplay.

Moving beyond the era of tyranny depicted in the original game, the Frostpunk 2 gameplay trailer appears to introduce a new political dynamic where delegates vote on laws to shape the future of the city. According to 11 Bit Studios, the core challenge and theme of the sequel remain centred around the mantra: “The City must not fall.” This naturally poses a question to players: “Can you lead effectively and ensure the city’s survival against all odds”? Only time will tell for this one.

Frostpunk 2 is scheduled for release in the first half of 2024 on PC, and will be available from day one on PC Game Pass. It will also be accessible on Xbox Game Pass following its release on Xbox Series X|S. The studio also says fans can also look forward to additional Game Pass releases from them in the future.
