To celebrate the release of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty as a day one Xbox Game Pass title, Microsoft teamed up with visionary craftsman, Andy Chi, to “push the boundaries of technology and tradition” and produce a unique jade Xbox controller.

The reveal comes by way of a short form documentary style video on YouTube called ‘The Power of Jade’ – no doubt a reference to the ‘Power Your Dreams’ slogan for the current line of Xbox Series consoles. The video [embedded below] invites viewers and gamers to “witness the fusion of an ancient Chinese art form with gaming” as Chi crafts an Xbox controller face-plate made entirely out of the precious gemstone. This makes the controller both the most unique and, probably, most expensive ever made.

Chi crafted the stunning jade Xbox controller through a “captivating blend of cutting-edge CNC machinery and centuries-old hand-polishing techniques”. In so doing, he discovers how the process of creating this unique jade Xbox controller is similar, in certain respects, to playing a video game like Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Chi details the mistakes he made along the way, how he overcame them, and how, ultimately, the process of overcoming challenges leads to discovering “new depths of beauty”.
