The Invincible is a science fiction adventure game inspired by the novel of the same name by Stanislaw Lem, a Polish author known for his visionary and philosophical works. The game is being developed by Starward Industries, a new studio composed of veterans from CD Projekt Red, Techland, and other Polish game companies. Now the latest instalment The Invincible Chronicles is giving gamers an even better look at this interesting new game.

The Invincible Chronicles Vol. 2 is part of a series of developer diaries giving gamers a glimpse into the development process and the creative vision behind the game. The second volume of the series (video embedded below) was released on 20 July, 2023, and it focuses on the story and the main character of the game.

In terms of the game, the main character is Yasna, a female scientist who is part of a rescue mission on a mysterious planet called Regis III. She is a rational and professional person who follows the rules and orders, but she will also have to face some moral dilemmas and make some choices that will affect the outcome of the story. The game will feature multiple endings depending on Yasna’s actions and interactions with other characters and creatures on the planet.

The Invincible Chronicles Vol. 2 video features interviews with Michal Napora, the community manager, Marek Markuszewski, the game director, and Magdalena Kucenty, the narrative designer and writer of the game. They talk about how they approached adapting Lem’s novel into a video game, and how they tried to stay faithful to the original source whilst also adding some new elements and surprises.

The video also shows some gameplay footage and concept art of the game, which looks stunning and atmospheric (not to mention the stellar music). The game will have an atompunk aesthetic, inspired by the retro-futuristic style of the 1950s and 1960s. The game will also feature various tools and gadgets for Yasna to use, explore and survive with on Regis III. These devices include a telemeter, a tracker, and a vehicle.

The Invincible Chronicles Vol. 2 is a fascinating insight into one of the most anticipated sci-fi games of 2023. Despite coming from what is, for all intents and purposes, an Indie studio, the game, thus far, looks pretty incredible.
