PRESS RELEASE

Today, Gun Interactive—the multimedia development firm behind the upcoming The Texas Chain Saw Massacre—is proud to release the game’s Official Soundtrack, as well as Remains, a companion album by Gun CEO Wes Keltner and composer Jim Bonney. Now digitally available on Spotify and Apple Music, the pair of albums arrive one week in advance of the technical test for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, allowing fans to get a taste of what’s in store. “The Massacre”, the main theme song from the OST, is composed of pig screams, chainsaws, and scraped metal, as well as other equipment like the Soma Lyra drone machine. It also features Keltner performing on the Apprehension Engine, the custom-made musical instrument played by the likes of Mark Korven and Trent Reznor, and which was once described by Brian Eno as “the most terrifying musical instrument of all time.” Take a listen below!

Remains, the collaborative companion record from Wes Keltner and Jim Bonney, was musically inspired by desert rock and similar heavy genres, while thematically exploring the events that occurred prior to those of the film. As Keltner writes in a Community Hub blog post from last year, “This album is a direct reflection of what Kim Henkel wrote, influenced by the events that led up to [those of the film] and why the Slaughter family did the things they did…it’s about that town that they grew up in and around.”

Both albums arrive in advance of the Technical Test for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which will be held on May 25th and continue through Memorial Day weekend. The test is an invitation to the gaming community from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham to collaborate in the game’s finishing stages in advance of its August 18th launch. The purpose of this event is to document the technical performance and capabilities of the latest playable build for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, not to preview the finished product. As the Gun team notes in its Community Hub post, “A Tech Test differs from a Beta in that the Technical Test is more focused on stress testing the game and backend services, allowing our team to adjust server load and make any adjustments prior to launch.”

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre takes place in the months leading up to the events of the original 1974 film, and features authentic recreations of the locations, characters, and imagery of the source material. Players control either the Victims or members of the Slaughter Family—including the infamous Leatherface—in a vicious game of 3v4 cat-and-mouse that takes the tension and suspense of the film and repurposes it into thrilling, competitive action. The Victims and the Slaughter Family must both utilize their unique abilities to come out on top, as the former use stealth and smarts to escape their fearsome tormentors, while each member of the Slaughter Family wields brutal and murderous attacks to hunt their prey.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will launch on August 18th, 2023 for PC, PlayStation® 5 (PS5™) & PlayStation® 4 (PS4™), Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, and will launch into Game Pass on Xbox and PC. For more information, visit The Community Hub at the official The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Website.
