Nike recently unveiled its newest super weapon in its quest for its sponsored football players to dominate on the sports field. The Hypervenom is a completely new boot designed and created with a football players need for creating space quickly and from any angle. The boot made its international debut on 2nd June where it was worn on the feet of Neymar and Rooney in the Brasil versus England football match.

Since most defenders are as swift, agile and skilled these days as many of the world’s best forwards, players like Neymar, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic referenced their need for a boot that could give them the edge over opponents. Nike hopes that edge might be in the form of the Hypervenom.

Working in conjunction with top podiatrists, the Hypervenom boot is meant to give players a feeling, as close to possible, of playing barefoot. Anatomically developed to create maximum comfort while increasing the ability of the player to make the crucial first step away from the defender.

On a pitch where the difference in skill level between players is becoming less and less, creating space and being quicker in the smaller space could mean the difference between beating a man, by getting the ball in the net, or not.

Nike’s revolutionary NIKESKIN system is used for the Hypervenom’s upper, which features a soft, supple mesh bound with a thin polyurethane film, and is finished off with Nike All Conditions Control technology (ACC) to provide the same level of foot-to-ball control in both wet and dry conditions. It also features a new foot last that places the foot closer to the ground and the ball. The chassis of the outsole features compressed nylon for a high-response plate that helps deliver strength while being incredibly light. The stud configuration and length is designed to allow for faster penetration of the surface, and ultimately a quicker release – all innovations designed to help players create space faster than ever before.

Usually, the evolution and product development of athletic footwear focuses on a key area that will have an influence on the rest of the shoe, such as fit or material. However, the sportswear powerhouse that is Nike seems to have created a performance innovation product that provides enhanced solutions to all the parts of the shoe that could give the player the winning edge.
