According to traditional Pokémon lore, Mewtwo is one of the first Pokémon to have been created by science. Similar to the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park, Mewtwo was genetically spliced from the DNA fragments of the legendary, elusive and thought to be extinct, Mew. Things are about to change for this legendary character, as now Mewtwo transforms!

Mewtwo was first introduced to American and European gamers in Pokémon Red and Blue for the Nintendo Gameboy in 1998 (the original games launched in Japan in 1996). Since that time, Mewtwo has attained renown for being one of the most enigmatic, complex and powerful Pokémon to exist in the entire pocket monster franchise.

Today, almost two decades since Mewtwo and the Pokémon franchise changed the face of what was possible with handheld gaming, The Pokémon Company has announced that one of the most powerful Pokémon will be getting even stronger in the soon to be released Pokémon X and Y for the Nintendo 3DS.

Embedded below is in-game footage of Mewtwo’s new form and a short clip of Mewtwo transforming in the forthcoming Pokémon movie ‘Extreme Speed Genesect: Mewtwo Awakens’.

Mewtwo’s transformation reminds me a lot of Frieza from the Dragonball Z anime… and I am not yet sure how that makes me feel.
